School at Home
by: Abbie
On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, the Central York School District had their first Flexible Instructional Day (FID). On these days, learners stay home and do school work due to winter weather or a building emergency that requires schools to close. Instead of making up these school days, the FID will count as a school day. If the weather is supposed to not cooperate, teachers will prepare their students for a possible FID. The state has approved Central York School District to have 5 of these days. Thanks to technology we are able to do this. Most of the students' work for the day will be on their computers or iPads. Teachers have to be available through email between 9:00am - 12:00pm and also between 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Students enjoyed this school day at home because they could sit on the couch and stay in their pjs and still have it count as a day at school. The best part was that kids could do their work while they waited for there to be enough snow to play in. If everyone did their work then Central York School District can keep doing these FID.

Family Movie Night
by: Rachel
Wonder . . . I bet you're wondering what that word is about. Well, that was the movie we watched at Family Movie Night! But first we have to talk about the dinner we had in the lunchroom. We had Mrs. Beaverson's famous stromboli! A lot of people love her stromboli and I asked them on a scale of one to ten what would you rate it? I got nines and tens! I know right, that is how good it is. Some people say it is great! Then I asked what they liked about the stromboli and most of the people said they liked the pepperoni and the cheese, but I had a few people who picked the dough and size which surprised me. Then we went to the gym for the movie. Once we were in the gym, we went over to the bake sale. I asked the girl why she was having a bake sale. She answered back and said that she loved helping people and she had been wanting to do this for a long time. She also said that the money that was going to be raised that night would go to the American Cancer Society. Which that is amazing. Then I started to interview Mr. Youcheff and I asked why we do family movie night. He replied that we do family movie night because it is a time to come to school with family and friends but we don't have to do work. Then I asked why did you pick Wonder for the movie? He said he picked the movie Wonder because he saw it with some fourth graders and also he thought it was an inspirational movie. Then the movie began. Have a happy family movie night and come next year!

Robotics Tournament!
by: Lorelei
The annual Robotics Championship just occurred. On January 26, the Panther Technix Black and Panther Technix Orange team traveled to Penn State Berks in Reading to compete with teams from around Pennsylvania. The teams had three rounds of Robotic Games, where they tried to complete as many missions as possible. The students were all very excited to spend a day with all their friends. The teams overall did better than they did last year. This year, they were 10th place out of 52 teams, wow! They were also ahead of every York County team! Also, in the project room they scored 34 out of 36 possible points. In their second room, the Core Values room, they scored 30 out of 36 points. Then, in the Robot Design room, they scored 30 out of 36 points. Overall, their judging score was 94 out of 102! The Black team did very well this year and overall they did better than they did last year. The Orange team also did very well at the competition. Then after all their hard work, all the teams had a one hour long dance party! At the very end, there was an award ceremony for all the teams who showed noticeable skills. Although the Orange and Black teams didn't win any awards, they still learned valuable lessons throughout their time during this tournament. Below are a few pictures of the wonderful First LEGO League Robotics tournament!

Share the Love

On Valentine's Day, February 14, Mrs. Kessel, North Hills guidance counselor, had a surprise in store. February 14 was also National Book Giving Day. Mrs. Kessel and 6th grade Pride Council members hid wrapped books around the school for students to find and share. Also, currently there are hearts in NHE classrooms for students to fill out when they catch another student being kind. They then bring the heart to Mrs. Kessel's office and it will be hung on a tree outside her room. If you're a student at North Hills and you catch someone being kind, make sure to fill out a heart. One kind word can change someone's whole day.

In Loving Memory of Dr. Seuss
by: Avery
Many people know the one and only Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss is a very popular author who was known for writing children's books. He was born on March 2, 1904. He sadly died on September 24, 1991. He died at 87 from cancer. Some of his well known books are Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and many more amazing stories. To celebrate Dr. Seuss, schools around America dedicate a spirit week to him. At North Hills, each day of the week there is something to wear to honor him. Monday, February 25 was wear your favorite college/university clothes. Tuesday was wear your crazy and mismatched socks. Wednesday, wear mismatched patterns and crazy colors. Thursday, wear a crazy hat or headband. Friday, wear pajamas and read during morning meeting. If you go to North Hills, make sure to show your spirit.

The Ripples Art Competition
A Healthy Heart
by: Avery
At North Hills on Day 6 for specials, North Hills students get to decide what special they want. There's gym, art, music, and STEM they can pick from. There are approximately 10 cycles for each trimester and 3 trimesters in all. My favorite special at North Hills has to be gym. In gym on Day 6, we play a ton of fun games, activities, and challenges. Sometimes we play low organized games, others complicated, and still so much fun. For this trimester, for our first class we played Prison Break, a game kind of like dodgeball. For the second and third classes, we will do bowling. North Hills PE teacher, Mr. Leese, and health teacher, Mrs. Thorius, run gym on Day 6. If you're a student at North Hills and don't enjoy gym, maybe you should give it a try. It's always important for kids to stay active and healthy.

February PAWS Meeting
by: Brezlyn and Serenity
On February 5 at our monthly PAWS meeting, after all the children piled into the room, Mr. Youcheff, the principal, started to tell us that we would have a special guest. Mrs. Bohannon's class recited the NHE creed, and then Mr. Youcheff introduced our special guest, Miss Godfrey. "As many of you know, I am a runner," she said. "A boy who used to do track with me always told me that I was bad at running, but look at me now. I run marathons, races, and so much more. I really wanted to run the London race, and so I am this year!" She added, "I'm really showing that kid, aren't I?" After her words of wisdom, we gave out our Academic Excellence Awards to the hardest working students, then ended up with 10 minutes to read as a school. But before we left, the next three campers for Camp Read S'more were announced. The next staff members are . . . Mrs. Beckmyer, Miss Van, Miss Kahl, and finally Mrs. Arnold!
